Travel water bottles that do more than just hold water

With the pandemic coming to an end, there has never been a more compelling time to want to travel! One essential travel tools these days is a travel water bottle. When traveling through TSA security, you can bring an empty reusable bottle (make sure it’s empty!) then fill it with water at a nearby refilling station. Not only will you be helping the environment by avoiding single-use plastic bottles, but you will also avoid paying high prices for airport bottled water.

Nowadays, why stop at just a boring water bottle when you can get a bottle that doubles as something else? These two-for-one water bottles will let you feed two birds with one scone, so to speak, and are great for traveling.

1. Two bottles with secret compartments to stash your stuff

The Bindle Bottle caught my eye because it doubles as a purse. This could come in handy at the beach or just during regular travels, when you need to stash keys, credit cards, or other small valuables away from pickpockets. You can also use it at home when on a bike ride or a walk. It’s made of stainless steel, is insulated, holds 24 ounces, and, at least at one time or another, it was reportedly “Oprah’s favorite” bottle. It comes in various colors (“glacier blue” shown below) and is $39 at Amazon, where it’s rated 4.5 out of 5 out of 1,380 ratings.

The Diversion Safe water bottle is very similar to the Bindle, and a little less expensive. Its water compartment holds 17 ounces, and the bottom compartment is also designed to act as a hidden container for your cards, keys, cash, etc. Regularly $23.89 on Amazon but currently on sale for $23.89.

2. A bottle that doubles as a foam roller

The MOBOT water bottle doubles as a roller massager and is advertised to “withstand 350 pounds of pressure.” The inside is made of 100% recycled stainless steel, while the outside is made of a non-toxic EVA foam and is BPA-free. It is advertised to be used to massage calves, glutes, lower back, upper back, and more. The MOBOT travel water bottle comes in three sizes (18-, 27-, and 40-ounce) and different colors, but my favorite is the “Juicybot,” shown below, which swirls pink, yellow, orange, and green colors and gives off an 80s vibe. With such a unique color pattern, no one else should accidentally mistake this bottle as theirs! The 27-ounce is $49.99 at Amazon.

3. A bottle with a wireless bluetooth speaker

The Asobu Wireless Beat Bottle lets you play music from your water bottle. The speaker is on the top of the lid of this insulated double-walled stainless steel bottle. As a Bluetooth, it is designed to synch with your phone or iPad. It comes with a USB cable and takes about an hour to charge. The is water resistant so it can be easily rinsed off (just don’t immerse it). Normally $34.99, but the teal color (shown below) is only $31.99 at Amazon.

4. A bottle that can make river water drinkable

The Katadyn BeFree bottle filters water from lakes, streams, or other questionable water sources to make it safe to drink. This travel water bottle is made by Katadyn, a Swiss company that produces personal water treatment systems and focuses on “simple solutions for safe drinking water no matter the location.” Katadyn says the bottle’s .1 micron filter “removes harmful organisms like bacteria 99. 9999% and protozoa like giardia & Cryptosporidium 99. 9%, surpassing EPA standards.” After you fill the bottle, each sip passes through a filter that will not need to be replaced for about 1,000 liters. This bottle is great for long hikes where natural water will be plentiful or cities where water sources are questionable. It holds about 20 ounces (or .6 liters) and is more of a bag than a bottle, for portability; when empty, the Katadyn BeFree collapses down to pocket-size. $38.19 at Amazon.
